Born in Havana, the Cuban-American performer was originally inspired while studying classical trumpet by such famed fellow jazzmen as Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, and Charlie Parker. After defecting to the U.S., he developed a passion for jazz, began composing and performing, and has since become one of the most popular and beloved musical talents of our time.
